Broadband changes.

Introduction.

The current broadband infrastructure in our area is due to be upgraded to a fiber to home solution and the copper broadband network will be turned of in 2030.

The new SIRO fiber network & the installation of new steel ESB networks telegraph poles www.siro.ie

Most of the residents of beech Park / South Park may have noticed or been affected  by the installation of the new ESB steel telegraph poles, these new poles have been implemented to support a joint venture between SIRO and ESB networks.

• The SIRO fiber to house broadband network is currently available to residents within our estate.

• Multiple different suppliers of digital related services have signed up to use the SIRO fiber to home network.

Installation of the new SIRO fiber to home network cables to your house.

• It is really important verify how the new cables that are required for fiber to home will be installed on your house, as the installation information provided on the SIRO website regarding cable connection does not really work for the vast majority of housing stock in our estate.

The OpenEir fiber network. www.openair.ie

• The OpenEir fiber to home network is another fiber to home initiate being deployed in Ireland, However the OpenEir fiber to home network is not currently available to residents within our estate.

Some other  options instead of fiber to home solutions.

• 5g mobile broadband.

• Satelite broadband e.g Starlink 

Removal of existing copper cables attached to houses in the estate.

• Will Virgin Media and Eir remove the copper cabling installed within the estate when there broadband networks are turned off in 2030.

Some simple tips to increase performance of existing broadband solutions.

• Concrete as a dense material is an effective mechanism that helps to block or slow WiFi signals, thus the placement of a broadband and WiFi router is quite important in houses similar to the houses in our estate. e.g house made with a lot of concrete.

• The optimal location for a broadband router and WiFi performance for most of the houses in our estate would be to place the router in the center of the house. e.g  2nd floor landing.

• Another way to enhance WiFi performance is to stop using the WiFi cabability of the supplier based broadband device and utilise another device that provides the Wifi signal only and in certain circumstances a WiFi extender.

Most  houses in our estate do not have external ESB meter boxes, thus is this information correct for our area ?
