Introduction & the reason to create this website 

Myles Gallagher is my name, my family have lived in South Park since 1964 and I have put together the information contained within the Beech Park residents association website. Why, because I believe a residents association for the area could achieve some poitive changes in our area.

 Modern society & the breakdown of community

The perception that modern society is increasingly selfish is rooted in a cultural shift toward individualism, capitalistic ideals and digital hyper-connectivity which pushes personal gain over community welfare. While humans have always been hardwired for self-interest to survive, modern systemic structures actively reward these traits.and attributes. Thus the idea of community is breaking down, which in my opinion is a very sad situation. Conversley while it is easy to look at these traits and attributes in a negative way it must be understood that humans are hardwired for both self-interest and profound altruism. Modern society still defines elements of community and the desire for the greater good, however the desire for community competes against self interest and all the modern distracrions in life.

A residents association will not address  the  situation above but could help to foster some level of bonds to build a better community in our area. It is up to each individual in our are to decide if there is any benefit in becoming involved in this type of initiative.

Note: Please note that the information that I have outlined within the website is to get residents thinking about the benefits of building a better community, the reasons for a residents association and some points of information I believe residents should be aware of. I also note that the current site should be considered as an initial "draft" site and will be refined and updated if and when the residents within our area agree to the formation of the Beech Park residents association etc.
