• Election of two additional committee members.
Discussion and points raised from the floor
Key concerns raised at the meeting:
• Traffic volume and speed in the area
Traffic re–routing through the estate due to traffic congestion in the area is likely contributing to the increased volume of traffic. A question was raised if it would be possible to sync the Deansgrange crossroad traffic lights with the pedestrian lights to allow for better traffic flow.
A full council analysis would have to be conducted to establish a clear picture of the current situation and subsequent recommendations. It was acknowledged that once DLRCC is involved and measures recommended it is difficult to go back. Careful consideration with the next steps is necessary.
• Commuters parking in the area
• Decline in aesthetics of the area
Residents noted a visible decline in estate maintenance, arguing that "biodiversity" is being used to mask a reduction in basic services. The meeting highlighted that residents are paying top-tier property taxes but receiving minimal community upkeep in return.
• Too many resident associations
Lack of concerted views, limiting political influence. Consider integration of RAs. Chairperson highlighted links with other RAs in the area.
Proposed next steps: 60 –90 days
The following next steps were identified:
1. Update the website with the meeting minutes.
2. Call a meeting of the elected committee.
3. Leaflet drops to provide information on the establishment of the Beech Park Residents Association in the area.
4. Apply for public liability insurance.
5. Set up a bank account for the RA.
6. Define a mechanism for residents to pay their annual membership fee.
7. Investigate options only on how to proceed with concerns of traffic management in the area.
8. Define and present a set of short-term goals to members of the residents association.
